2025 is here and I have so many hopes for the books I will read this year. Previously, my yearly TBR lists included books that I thought I *should* read. This time, though, I am a year older and wiser, and I understand that life is too short to force myself to read books that I do not really want to. Therefore, what I am going to do this year is read whatever the hell I want! There are quite a few *popular* books on my list and if you are going to judge me for the lack of more substantial classics, know that I have moved past the point of societal expectations when it comes to my reading — that is exactly the point of this year’s list after all.

Here is the list I made for 2024! Can you guess which one I managed to read and which ones I didn’t?

Another thing that I am going to tell myself this year is that it is all right if I do not finish reading all the books on that list. I mean, it would be great if I do finish reading them, but I will not beat myself up if I don’t.

So, without further rambling, here are all the 25 books I plan on reading this year!

Non-Fiction

The Lonely City: Adventures in the Art of Being Alone, by Olivia Laing

In this book, Olivia Laing explores loneliness through the lens of art and artists, examining how isolation shapes human experience and connection in modern urban life while weaving together works from Hopper to Warhol with her own solitary existence in New York.

Honestly, I came across this book on social media the first time and the various reviews I’ve read about it since, just cemented the fact that I needed to read it soon, considering I too am a woman living alone in the big city. Moreover, since I want to read non-fiction, this seemed like a good place to start. I prefer creative non-fiction over other non-fiction sub-genres and so, this was an obvious choice.
